The first major city on the road south of Cancun is Puerto Morelos. Puerto Morelos is located just 28 km from the Cancun International Airport and, despite the construction boom of the last five years, it is famous among tourists from all over the world as a place for a relaxing holiday on the Caribbean coast with a series of endless white beaches.
The town of Puerto Morelos itself is located right on the Cancun - Tulum federal highway. The city has several supermarkets, schools, kindergartens, stores, coffee shops, a market, many private stores where tourists can buy everything they need - from groceries to beach accessories. The city has a well-developed infrastructure, public transport, you can easily and inexpensively get to the beaches by taxi, and good security.
The resort area of Puerto Morelos itself is located a few kilometers from the highway along the Caribbean coast. To get from the city to the sea, you can take a scenic road that passes through mangroves and numerous lakes. Swimming and fishing in them are not recommended, because of the crocodiles.
The coast of Puerto Morelos has its own life with a succession of large hotels and not large private hotels, condos, and houses by the sea. The hallmark of Puerto Morelos is the central promenade with a wooden pier, many fishing boats, and two "falling" lighthouses that somewhat resemble the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The embankment has a large number of cafes and restaurants, stores, and souvenir shops. Tourists can either relax on the beach or go snorkeling or sea fishing.
